| Competitive Grants Program- Frequently Asked Questions | ||||
|
1) I previously applied for a competitive grant. Do I need to apply again? Yes. As of June 29, 2007, all unsuccessful applications previously submitted have been rescinded. 2) If I was previously funded, can I apply for a new or different grant? Yes, as long as it is for a different project than the one that was funded. (For example: if you were funded for an annual festival that occurred in 2007, you are permitted to apply for the 2008 staging of the festival.) 3) Is there a limit on how big of a grant I can seek? No. However, as funds are limited, please be reasonable and purposeful when making applications. 4) Is there a time within which a project must be completed? There is no specific time frame for the expenditure of grant funds. Once the grant is awarded, the funds will transfer. The applicant must file a final financial status report of expenditures with the Committee within ninety (90) days of completion of the project along with a description of the results achieved. Also, semi-annual progress reports must be filed with the Competitive Grants Office until all funds have been expended. 5) Who can apply? Can a state agency apply? The applicant must be a local government entity or a nonprofit organization. State agencies may not apply. This is governed by the legal authority that created the grant program. 6) Can I submit more than one application? Yes, but they must be for different projects. 7) Are there other requirements to submit an application? Please see the Competitive Community Grants Guidelines:
8) What is the source of these funds? Are these federal grant dollars? This is a grant program that was created by the South Carolina General Assembly for this year and consists solely of state funds. 9) Are matching funds required? No. 10) What if I don't get my application submitted by the posted deadline ? There may be future opportunities to apply for grants. 11) When will funds be available? The funds will be available when the applicant is officially notified that the application has been approved, and after allowing a reasonable amount of time for administrative processing of the transaction. 12) How will funding decisions be made? All awards will be made by the Competitive Grants Committee. 13) How soon will I know if I will receive a grant? There is no set timetable for making awards. Your application will continue to be active until funding is exhausted or as otherwise notified. 14) How will I be notified if I have received a grant? Will you issue a press release? A letter will be sent to all successful grant applicants. While the Committee does not anticipate issuing news releases, recipients are free to announce the award. 15) When will the committee next meet? The Competitive Grants Committee has not yet determined when the next meeting will be. Once determined, a meeting notice will be posted on the Budget and Control Board website at www.bcb.sc.gov. The link to the on-line application will be activated the first working day of the open period. 16) Who are the members of the Competitive Grants Committee? As established by law, the following members were appointed to the committee: Chairman Jimmy Bailey, Charleston (Appointed by President Pro Tempore of the Senate) Scott English, Columbia (Appointed by the Governor) Christopher A. Latham, Mount Pleasant, (Appointed by the Speaker of the House) James Brown, Florence (Appointed by the Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee) Vice-Chairman Jack D.
